What is an English chocolate Lab?

By · Updated

Short answer

“English” usually means a show-bred (conformation) Labrador: stockier, heavier-boned and denser-coated than field-bred dogs. It isn’t a separate breed, and the Labrador Retriever Club says the label doesn’t tell you about temperament or health. Chocolate is just coat color (bb). Ask about the parents’ health clearances.
